LOST IN TRANSLATION on HD DVD: nothing to get excited about
I've been anticipating this for a short while, but it turns out to have been not really worth the wait. The whole thing looks a little soft, with edge ringing around high-contrast areas and Temporally-based Film Grain reduction that causes movement to smear slightly. Apparently, the Digital VHS (D-Theater) 1080i cassette looked better. If that's true, then why??
This cavalcade of disappointment means that LOST IN TRANSLATION gets a 6/10 on the Lyris Video-o'meter Rating Scale (patent pending). HD video discs still to arrive... PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN!
